Gwen Stefani - inspiration

With the very recent release of No Doubts new album 'Push and Shove' its no wonder one of my favourite style icon's is being featured in pretty much every fashion publication this season. I love Gwen Stefani's style and the way she pushes the boundaries with her hair and make up looks. Suiting a lot of the vintage looks, you'll often see her sporting 40's victory roll's, 20/30's finger waves and her signature 40's red lips. Here I have put together some of my favourite images showing natural looks and signature ones - perhaps an inspiration to experiment with different make up and hair styles you may not have thought to try!

That's all there is to it, I've just recently purchased this beauty marvel and I love it.

Its promise;

Never greasy, skin prep for the smoothest make up application. Its oil free with Shea butter, carrot extract, vitamin A & vitamin C which all help minimise fine lines and wrinkles and protect against the environment.

It has such an amazing smell to it (no wonder with grapefruit and geranium extract), apply over clean face and watch it melt into the skin giving the most fabulous base for any make up look.
It literally sorts out the skin dilemmas which can effect a make up look. I use it on all my clients and myself (well it was £36!)  So if you are looking to treat yourself to a good skin base, make this your choice. I luckily  purchased this when John Lewis had a 20% off sale on beauty products so keep an eye out for these offers too.

AOFM pro - A team of talented make up artists have come together to create the Academy of Freelance Make up in London. This book shows their ideas and is full of inside knowledge and advice on how to succeed and keep ahead of the competition.

After visiting the AOFM in London I couldn't resist the book that was neatly presented on the shelf in the waiting room.The instant I opened it i loved it and took in every last piece of advice. If you have a genuine passion for make up then this book is an essential part of the kit. Not only is it full of fantastic advice the photography is stunning and inspiring and the set up makes for an interesting read. This book takes you through every step of make up from skincare right through to blush and contouring, iconic ideas, body art, catwalk make up and more. You can learn all about primers, bronzers and even how to master underwater make up. A favourite section of mine is the Q & A's - ideal for those interested in the career of make up artistry or even if you're starting out. Some examples are; How can I get to assist a Make up artist? How do I know where to get the best training possible? Big questions for every budding make up artist.
I would definitely recommend treating yourself to this real feast for the eyes if your a make up artist, a trainee, student or an admirer of the art.

Well Make up Lane has been a busy girl these past few months. Not only is it wedding season, so lots of lovely brides to work with but I have also been taking part in a fabulous shoot with Jim Markland, English National Ballet dancer Ksenia Ovsyanick and Tango dancer Flavio De Brito. It was lovely to work with such a creative and hard working team. Take a look at some of the pictures below. Happy New year

Hey everyone - Happy new year, so were back, up and running and ready to love all things makeup and beauty for 2012.

I have to say I didn't go too crazy on the spending this season (saving for spring/summer) as make up and beauty is looking to be glorious!

I did treat myself to a little Lancome set in boots - Lancome Hypnose Doll eyes set

I will post all details and a review once I let go of my Dior Mascara :(. I have had a little dabble with the eyeliner. I have to say it did make my vision go a bit blurry, that may have been the alcohol consumed over the festive period or it may just be quite waxy! I will give these a proper test and get back to you with the results.
